This is how I look on the inside.

Here’s my latest podcast thing.  My people say it’s important to keep putting them out, just saying hello and talking a lot.

I can see what they mean, because I’m listenable.  But… and I do mean it, I’m aware that this text blog is where you might come to read my genius… and to have the audio jammed in your face, is maybe a bit unwelcome.

So, from now on, the audio podcast will only be available directly through subscribing to it on itunes, or other great podcast service providers.  I’ll also probably tweet out the links, so follow me on @vinylburns

 

Also, just an apology because I was very passionate about this podcast, so I was way too close to the microphone… so it’s a bit buzzy from time to time.

Giving thanks…

Hola long lost followers,

I’ve been a bit sloppy in the old publishing department… mainly because I’ve been doing a lot of swimming and trying to master Kung Fu.

But, I’m spurred back into literary action by a few things.

Firstly, you may have spotted me at several recent Christchurch benefit functions… raising money for “The Dusties” down in Canterbury.  I didn’t feel it would be fair to directly contribute from my considerable fortune, as that would be a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, when I own the barrel, and it’s already at my house, and I don’t even eat fish.

So instead, I felt that contributing my many talents to a few different fundraisers, was the right move.

Secondly, last Friday night was the celebrity roast, put on by my old friend El Jaguar, roasting my even older friend, Philippino game show hosting legend Johnny Tan.  I was unable to attend in person, but I shot this quick video and musicalised my sentiments, in a long distance tribute.

Here for you, is that tribute to Johnny Tan.

I have a quiet few months now, in my eastern country house, before I hit the road again for June & July… with appearances throughout the former Yugoslavia, England, Switzerland and Canada, then back for nearly a full month with the WOW team, before some heavy involvement with the cruise ship scene.

Caught up inside your problems?

Hello troubled world,

It’s been a heck of a week out here in the Pacific islands.  A little whirlwind of doubt, blame and nerves…

I don’t propose a solution to these dark twisty issues, but I offer a kind of visual metaphor.  When you’re surrounded by a swirling mess of pulpy trouble, just jump right on in, and eat your way out.

So folks, with all the fruity love in my pithy heart, I suggest to you… Just eat it!

Chit Chat 2010

Gentle hellos to you.

I’m moments away from boarding my flight into the city for the second night of our 2010 season of the Chit Chat Lounge.  We opened last night to a sell out crowd on the 9th floor of the continental high hotel plaza in Nelson.  Obviously, with a star studded cast such as we have, we can’t take the liberty of being in the same city as the Wellington Fringe Arts festival, so we tucked ourselves out of the way in Nelson.

Nevertheless, we had just over 800 people jammed into the corporate entertainment media suite up there on number 9… and to cater for the natural spillover crowd, we beamed the show live to various venues throughout the Asia / Pacific region, courtesy of CISCO systems.  Their tech allows the audience in the ‘official’ venue, Fringe Bar, Wellington… to experience the show, as if we were actually there.

The stream of caption suggestions continued to flow… text Derek with your Chit Chat Lounge slogan suggestion.

In any case, we enjoyed a few beautiful guests including the relatively not-mad Guy Capper.  The furious and unpredictable genius of the man took us to new places… I love that dark dark doctor of the night. We were also deliciously catered to by the moody sublit beauty of Anthony Livingspace blowing a square bubble – as cool as square gets.

Speaking of things medical… we treated the good folks to a little sample of Vinyl’s new community seminar package (for good looking but unfortunately sexless kids out there).

I trust you all survived the holiday break and are itching to see more action in 2010.

I myself am just about to go into production month on the Chit Chat Lounge 2010 project.  Year four and we’ve enlisted additional writers, wardrobe consultants and renovated the greenroom media suite to allow for the Scandinavian networks to do their simulcasts standing up.

I had hoped to have my people attach a music file to this, to remind you of the good times created at Horse House Studios last summer… but they didn’t know how. So, you can go to…

Building a mountain of antisipation for the summer…
